CLO 1

Explore and analyze, in writing and reading, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations.

Course Learning Outcome 1 was one of the first things we learned in our class. In my opinion it is the most important Course Learning Outcome because it gives the writer a clear goal to achieve. CLO 1 taught me that all the elements of rhetorical situation are strongly connected and all of them have to be considered before we even start writing a paper.

A great example of me using CLO 1 are my notes attached below:

This photo shows my drafting notes that helped me organize my thoughts and set a goal while writing an expository essay. To accomplish this assignment successfully I had to consider all six rhetorical elements as well as the genre itself. Expository essay main role is to inform and the writer should keep their stance pretty neutral. As I wrote in my expository essay that you can find in the “Additional Documents” section:

“Even though there are visible physical differences between women and men, the real reason behind the lack of women in aviation is not fully science based. Women have been facing prejudice for a long time and to this day it is a problem worth exploring”.

This part of my expository essay shows my lack of personal stance, as the choice of genre required. It is informative, based on the research I have done which is also one of the requirements of the chosen genre.
